Vanuatu Student Association analysis for Semester one 2013

Halo olgeta and hope that study is going on well and that final assignments and test are coming to completion. This report is a brief analysis of an updates of the Vanuatu Student Association programs, total number of students and grant for semester one and semester two 2013

Number of Students

The total number of students admitted to study at Laucala Campus in 2013 for first semester is 317 and semester two it also increase including sponsored and private students. This shows an increase due to the Vanuatu government policy for increasing the number of scholarship despite the continuous changes going on with the government. This semester one will end with about 30+ students who are on their final semester and are looking forward to graduate at the end of this year.

Budget

The budget or grants given by the USPSA at Laucala is base on the number of student’s enrollments at $10 per head. The VSA grant from the USPSA for semester one was $1,780.00 and that this fund must be exhausted by the VSA activities this semester one that was stated in its year 2013 calendar.

Programs

The chart below shows the number of students and the programs and disciplines in 2013.

Source: SAS Office, 2013

The chart shows that the highest numbers of students are doing BCOM, BA and BSC programs and the rest have very few who are doing other specific programs which are vital for the country. It can be visibly seen that there are less number of students going further higher in doing Post-graduate, Master and Doctorate courses which is the challenge for the students. The trend is believe to increase after the government policy encouraging student to be able to go further and increasing the numbers in these areas after graduating from a degree program.

Education by Gender

The pie chart shows the number of female and male students studying at Laucala Campus.

Source: SAS Office, 2013

The pie chart shows the portion of female student studying at Laucala campus is 47% compare to male 53% higher to female. However, the gender issue in regards to this analysis should not be in our case because there is an improvement in our female high education rate and that Vanuatu should maintain and improve on the numbers of female in the future.

Looking at the analysis and the total number of students shows a huge increase and the realization of the government to boost its human resource development. Therefore you as a student at Laucala I want to encourage you to keep your academics performance very high and if you are not performing I urge you to pull up your socks and start to make some sacrifice and priorities you academic and social life. The exam is around the corner and we have to start revising, managing our time and being thorough in our studies.

“STUDY SMART, If you want your dreams to come true, you mustn't oversleep”.

The analysis above is my own thoughts and musing and not from any other source and that any comments made or criticism is welcome regarding the information.

Vanuatu Student Association – Greetings

Bula Vinaka to you all. It is a great pleasure and honor to warmly welcome you students both new and old students to the Vanuatu Student Association (VSA) at Laucala Campus, Suva, Fiji. This year is another academic year and a challenge for us as we all want to perform to our best at the same time wanted to be part of the social activities happening at the campus.

While reading my greetings letter you will realize that you are reading it from the new VSA website that the committee had created and developed for the last previous months. This is an achievement my executive had successfully implemented along with the VSA logo. I believe that this is a foot print that will be left for our future Vanuatu students who will continue to use and develop into the future. This is an advantage for us to make use of the technology to fast track information reaching the students and updated activities that VSA will be carrying out in its year planner.

I also want to let you know that once you become a student at Laucala you automatically become a member of the Vanuatu Student Association. The VSA main goal is to attend to the welfare of the students, in their academics and social activities that the student can enjoy him or herself while living in Fiji and making his or her stay a home away from home.

The VSA has its constitution that provides guidance and task to the executives and members in order to run its affairs smoothly and meeting the needs of the students. The executive consist of seven members the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Treasurer/Secretary, Public Relation Officer and the vice Public Relation Office among the executives are chairs of different social activities such as Sport, Religious, Education, Cultural, Container and Independent chair. The executive and the various chairs have their responsibilities which individuals take the lead and you as a member are part of the activities.

I want to urge you all that the high school and college is gone where you are being spoon fed with the teacher, and being part of the University of the South Pacific you are expected to study on your own and be able to develop groups within your disciplines for discussions. The VSA will not come after you and chase you around to study or stop your social life, it is up to you and your study. A sacrifice today will provide a good results and successful achievement at the end. I also want to quote the Vice-Chancellor speech during the orientation week and in the USPSA President remarks saying; it is important that we take heed of what we are here to do. Get a degree in the shortest time possible. We have all the learning support services provided by USP and I encourage all students to make use of them and even your respective lecturers and tutors for their assistance.

The executive will continue to assist in your academics and social activities that you can equally enjoy and make your stay a memorable time at the University of the South Pacific in your life time. Our Love and Prayer is with you all in your studies and always look up to where your help comes from as David says; “My help comes from God.

May God Richly Bless you.

President.
